About 200 area employers attended Grand Valley's Inclusive Recruitment and Retention Conference, sponsored by the Division of Inclusion and Equity and the Career Center.

The conference was held for its second year July 26 at the Kirkhof Center. Employers included representatives from The Rapid, John Ball Zoo and Haworth.

Kristie Scanlon, employer relations coordinator, said one of the most important challenges organizations face is recruiting a diverse work force.

“We created this educational conference for our employer and agency partners to help foster a more equitable and inclusive work environment for their employees," Scanlon said.

Grand Valley staff members led sessions focused on how to destigmatize mental health in the workplace and how to recruit and retain women of color, LGBTQIA+ employees and people with disabilities.
