Faculty members across the university were honored for their contributions to teaching, scholarship and service during the 12th Annual Faculty Awards Convocation. The ceremony was held February 12 in Loosemore Auditorium at the DeVos Center on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus. 

"Those who received awards were selected from many outstanding nominees, a testament to the excellent work faculty do on behalf of making a Grand Valley education one of high quality and care for students," said Provost Maria Cimitile. 

Stephen Mattox, professor of geology, received the Glenn A. Niemeyer Award and gave the keynote address; Deborah Herrington, professor of chemistry, was recognized as the Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year. See a full list of faculty members who were recognized here.

President Thomas J. Haas was recognized and thanked for his servant leadership and commitment to excellence. "I believe in my heart of hearts that the soul of this institution is embodied with our faculty," said Haas. "Without outstanding faculty, we couldn't be the university we have become and are still becoming."
