The first cohort of students enrolled in the Physician Assistant Studies program at the Traverse City Regional Center earned master's degrees at Grand Valley's Commencement ceremony December 9.

Nicholus Kopacki, affiliate professor and assistant chair of PAS for Traverse City, said eight students earned degrees. They started the degree program in 2015, when the satellite program opened.

Offered through the College of Health Professions, the satellite program is part of an ongoing effort to place more graduates in jobs in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

PAS courses are held at the University Center at Northwestern Michigan College. The full-time program runs for 28 months and new students are accepted each fall. More information is at gvsu.edu/traverse.
