More than 30 staff members and interns from Grand Valley’s Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy took part in an all-day volunteer trip to Camp Blodgett July 11.

The group spent the day pulling weeds, cleaning up the beach, and cleaning and organizing the camp grounds and facilities.

Camp Blodgett is a nonprofit organization located on Lake Michigan in West Olive that works to provide area kids with an educational and recreational experience that promotes social responsibility, encourages academic success and supports the development of healthy self-esteem. Camp Blodgett is also a partner agency of Heart of West Michigan United Way.

Kyle Caldwell, executive director of the Johnson Center, said the volunteer day was part of a larger effort of the College of Community and Public Service to be more engaged in the West Michigan community.
