Chemistry professor Deborah Herrington, graduate student Senetta Bancroft, and Ellen Yezierski, professor of chemistry at Miami University, were co-authors of an article, "Tool Trouble: Challenges with Using Self-report Data to Evaluate Long-term Chemistry Teacher Professional Development," published in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching. Herrington and student researchers were co-authors of an article, "I Want to be the Inquiry Guy! How Research Experiences for Teachers Change Beliefs, Attitudes, and Values About Teaching Science as Inquiry," published in the Journal of Science Teacher Education.
Chemistry faculty members Deborah Herrington and Jessica VandenPlas gave a presentation, "Student Understanding of Atomic Interactions: Impact of Simulation vs. Screencast Use," at the 251st American Chemical Society National Meeting.
Katie Clark, systems analyst in eLearning and Emerging Technologies, gave an online presentation, "How GVSU Leverages Institutional Hierarchies in Blackboard," for the Western New York Blackboard User Group.
Leanne Kang, visiting professor of education, gave presentations, "Building Civic Capacity and Instructional Regimes in the Aftermath of Disruptive Schooling in Detroit," at the annual meeting of the Urban Affairs Association in San Diego, California; and "The Dismantling of an Urban School System: Detroit, 1980-2014," at the American Educational Research Association Conference in Washington, D.C.
Elena Lioubimtseva, professor of geography and sustainable planning, gave a presentation, "Assessment of Human Vulnerability to Climate Change in the West Michigan Region," at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in San Francisco, California.
Jonathan Wessell, adjunct faculty of geography and sustainable planning, wrote an article, "Geography Education: Applying Spatial to Everyday Life: American Association of Geographers Geography Education Special Group," published in The Geography Teacher. Wessell was a panelist for a session, "The Academic Job Market for Geographers: Strategies for Improving Career Preparation," and a mentor for another session at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in San Francisco, California.
Mary Ebejer, adjunct professor of writing, received the Grand Rapids Area Professionals for Excellence LEAD Award for Distinguished Leadership in Writing and Editing.
Al Steinman, director of the Annis Water Resources Institute, was a plenary panelist and speaker at the National Conference on Ecosystem Restoration in Coral Springs, Florida. His presentation was on the Great Lakes restoration initiative.

Dianne Conrad, assistant professor of nursing, gave a presentation, “The Synergy of the Scholarship Team,” at the Sigma Theta Tau International Region 10 Conference in Ann Arbor.
Amy Manderscheid, assistant professor of nursing, gave presentations, “Design and Implementation of Professional Development Strategies in Support of a Succession Planning Imperative” and “Elevating Transformational Leadership During Times of Transition: Successful Quality Improvement Strategies Employed by Advanced Practice Nurses in Specialty Leadership Roles,” at the Sigma Theta Tau International Region 10 Conference in Ann Arbor.
