Chamber event includes talk of Laker Line
Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., spoke of his support for the proposed Laker Line during his comments at the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce Breakfast for Legislators February 22, held at The Rapid Central Station.
Peters, a supporter of public transit, congratulated The Rapid while noting that federal funding for the Laker Line is included in President Obama's budget proposal. If approved, the Laker Line would receive $57 million.
The new bus rapid transit (BRT) line would connect Grand Valley's Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses offering shorter ride times and better schedule consistency. Enhancements would include increasing capacity by utilizing larger buses, installing sheltered and raised bus stations, and improving connectivity via traffic signal priority.
