Students receive award for anti-human trafficking work
A group of students at Grand Valley won an award for efforts to raise awareness about human trafficking.
The International Justice Mission student organization was nominated and voted to receive the Michigan Liberator Award in the student category at an awards ceremony in Livonia January 10. The award, named after William Lloyd Garrison, was established to honor the dedication of modern-day abolitionists.
The group, established in 2012 at Grand Valley, is a chapter of the national organization that seeks to protect people from violence in developing countries. They host weekly meetings and partner with outside organizations to host events and speakers.
