Two staff members were recognized for their support of the LGBT community at Lavender Graduation April 15 at the Alumni House.

Grand Valley Provost Gayle R. Davis and Kim Ranger, liaison librarian in Liberal Arts Programs for University Libraries, received a Prism Award during the fifth annual ceremony.

Established in 2011, the award recognizes the contributions of faculty and staff members who support the LGBT community at Grand Valley. Award recipients are elected from a slate of nominations and approved by the LGBT Faculty and Staff Association (FSA).

Kyle Felker, digital initiative librarian for University Libraries, is chair of the LGBT FSA. He said Davis was given the award based largely on her support of the Milton E. Ford LGBT Center and Ranger was chosen based on her involvement with LGBT causes and concerns on campus over the last 25 years.

Lavender Graduation is a cultural celebration that recognizes LGBTA students’ contributions to the university and acknowledges their achievements during their college experience.
