No. 1-ranked Bass Anglers Club recognized

Grand Valley's Bass Anglers Club was recognized at an event that took place at Smart Garden in Grand Rapids June 22.

Kevin VanDam, the world's No. 1 professional bass fisher from Kalamazoo, celebrated the 40-member club and its many accomplishments.

The club started in 2011 and has competed at regional and national tournaments. Most recently, the club placed in the top 20 out of 80 teams at the 2014 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series and will compete again July 9-11 at Lake DuBay in Wisconsin.

Currently, the team ranks No. 1 on a national list of collegiate teams ranked by bassrankings.com. The ranking is based on the teams performance during the past 12 months, with a four tournament minimum.

The event also celebrated the club's sponsor, Sportsman Tracker, a mobile app that tracks hunting and fishing activities. Bass club members serve as beta testers for the app.
