Golf event to raise money for Groundswell
The annual Golf for Groundswell event will be held August 20 to help raise money for the community initiative that creates opportunities for hands-on environmental learning for students throughout Kent County. Groundswell is housed in Grand Valley State University’s College of Education.
The event will be held at The Meadows on Grand Valley's Allendale Campus. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A reception will follow in the Gazebo at the Clubhouse.
The cost is $100 per participant which includes lunch. All proceeds will go directly to Groundswell schools, teachers and students.
All members of the winning team win a free round of golf at The Meadows. There will be a hole-in-one contest with a chance to win a new car. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas and prizes will be given for longest drive, closest to the pin and the longest putt.
About $2,800 was raised last year.
Groundswell, a coalition of community partners, is a hub of the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative that enhances student learning and empowers students to develop solutions to environmental problems in their communities. Groundswell offers teacher professional development and academic service learning.
