More than 30 golfers hit the greens at The Meadows Golf Club June 17 during the annual CLAS on the Green golf outing to support the endowment of the CLAS Student Scholarship Fund.

“The goal of the outing is primarily to have faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the college come together to support our students' scholarship,” said Monica Johnstone, director of communications and advancement for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. “Along the way, these groups get a chance to connect and reconnect while having some fun.”

Shannon Biros, ‘01, has joined in CLAS on the Green the past three years and said she primarily participates to help give students a financial boost as they pursue their educational goals.

“Many students who are pursuing a college degree are faced with the challenge of paying for their tuition all on their own. If everyone just pitched in a little to help college students out financially, the impact would be tremendous,” said Biros. “It could mean they work less hours per week and spend that time studying, or engaging in job shadowing, volunteering or other extracurricular activities.”

Along with challenging games at designated holes, including longest drive, closest to the hole and longest putt, the contest came to a three-way tie for first place. Winning the tiebreaker was the team of Paul Stephenson, Statistics Department chair; Phyllis Curtiss, professor of statistics; Allen Curtiss and Eric Curtiss.
