Participants at the 12th annual EqualiTEA, sponsored by the Women's Center and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, honored one of the event founders March 26 in the Kirkhof Center.

Kathleen Underwood, director of WGSS and associate professor of history, will retire at the end of the semester. Underwood helped establish the first EqualiTEA, held during Women’s History Month as a nod to the women’s teas of the 19th century, when tea parties often turned to discussions on activism.

Underwood said it was exciting to see so many people in the audience who had attended many EqualiTEAs.

“This is a time to celebrate the gains made by women and for women, and also to remind us of the work that is left to do,” she said.

Entertainment for the event was provided by members of Delta Sigma Theta Inc., who performed an original play, “We Keep Coming,” by Lois Smith Owens, director of recruitment and admissions for Social Work.
