Samrat Upadhyay wraps up Writers Series
This year’s Writers Series wraps up with Samrat Upadhyay, a Nepali
writer who writes in English. He will give a free public reading and
discussion of his work, Thursday, March 27, from 7:30-9 p.m. in
Cook-DeWitt Center, Allendale Campus. The author will also give a
craft talk for students from 4-5:15 p.m. in the Mary Idema Pew
Library, Multipurpose Room.
Upadhyay is the author of “Arresting God in Kathmandu,” a Whiting
Award winner; “The Royal Ghosts,” which won the Asian American
Literary Award and was declared a Best of Fiction by the Washington
Post; “The Guru of Love,” a New York Times Notable Book and a San
Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year; and “Buddha’s Orphans.” He
has also written for the New York Times and has appeared on BBC Radio
and National Public Radio. Upadhyay is a Martha Kraft Professor of
Humanities at Indiana University.
