Johnson receives inaugural division award for inclusion efforts
Jane Johnson, customer service coordinator for University
Bookstore, was the first recipient of an inclusion and equity award
from the Finance and Administration Division.
Johnson received the iPIE (Intentional Practice of Inclusion and
Equity) May 6 during the division’s spring forum.
The award was established to honor a staff member who promotes
awareness, equality and cultural competency within the university and community.
She was nominated for the award by Jerrod Nickels, manager of
UBS and Copy Services. Nickels said Johnson is a strong advocate for
inclusion and actively looks to hire diverse student employees.
“Jane does not shy away from diversity; rather, she embraces
it,” Nickels said. “She loves to hear and celebrate what is unique
about each person, but also to discover the common themes that unite
us all.”
Nickels also said Johnson frequently attends seminars on
cultural competency, “knowing that intercultural communication and
understanding are marathon endeavors and not short-term goals.”
