Grand Valley celebrates Founders Day

The campus community celebrated the founding of Grand Valley with a full day of events and activities October 23.

President Thomas J. Haas celebrated with students by handing out cupcakes at Fresh Food Company and Kleiner Commons. The Lake Marching Band played at noon by the Cook Carillon Tower. Cupcakes were also enjoyed at the Muskegon and Traverse City centers.

There was also a 282-flag display on the Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids campuses to recognize Grand Valley’s 282 founders. A trail on both campuses included facts about Founders Day.

Founders Day is celebrated each year to honor the individuals who came together to start the vision and foundation for Grand Valley. The actual date of observance is October 25, the day Bill Seidman convened some of these individuals to discuss what an institution of higher education would look like in West Michigan.
