Latin American Studies will host two events in September that will help participants better understand the current immigration crisis that has brought a surge of undocumented children to the U.S. from Central America and Mexico.

“A Lost Innocence: The Forgotten Children of Central America” is a presentation by student Michelle Alderink, a LAS minor. Her presentation is set for Tuesday, September 23, at 2 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, room 2263.

Alderink will discuss how undocumented children have escaped violence in their home countries but have been left vulnerable and forgotten.

Two screenings of the film “Little Immigrants” are planned for September 30, both will feature discussion by the director, Sonia Fritz. The film will be shown at noon in the Cook-DeWitt Center, and 8 p.m. in DeVos Center, Loosemore Auditorium.

The film tells a story about a mother and her two children as they travel across the U.S.-Mexico border.
