Grand Valley students remember 9/11
A group of Grand Valley students organized a day-long memorial to
remember victims of Sept. 11.
Students put 2,977 mini American flags in the ground on the lawn
of the east side of the Kirkhof Center — one for each of those who
died in the attacks.
At 11:45 a.m. at the Cook Carillon Tower on the Allendale
Campus, university carillonneur Julianne Vanden Wyngaard chimed the
bells 12 times to signify the 12th anniversary of 9/11.
The memorial was organized by Grand Valley’s Student Senate and
the College Republicans student organization.
“The flag display is a symbol to help remind students; maybe it
is something that slipped their mind today and they can see it and
remember,” said Reuben Peck, member of the College Republicans student
organization.
Students can share their photos and tweets with the hashtag #NeverForgetGV.
