Facilities Services at Grand Valley was awarded the Region III Corporate Energy Management Award for 2013 by the Association of Energy Engineers.

Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president for Facilities Services, and university engineer Terry Pahl accepted the award September 24 at a ceremony in Washington D.C.

Thimmesch said the Energy Projects team has been meeting regularly over the past few years to develop and install energy conservation projects on campus. “Their energy management efforts have resulted in nearly $2 million in annual utility savings,” Thimmesch said.

Energy-saving projects include lighting scheduling, utility infrastructure improvements and temperature setbacks, among others.

This is the latest recognition Grand Valley has received for its energy management efforts. The team received the Energy Project of the Year for Region III Award from AEE in 2011 and Creating a Sustainable Future Together Award by Armstrong and Merlo Energy in 2012.
