Students are invited to attend a one-day conference that will provide tips on how to make a smooth transition from being a student to a professional.

The Student to Professional Conference will take place on Friday, January 25, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Grand River Room of the Kirkhof Center. Students will learn how to market themselves, plan for their dream job, write a noticeable resume and successfully answer interview questions.

The conference will include group sessions, guest speakers, workshops, and complimentary breakfast and lunch. West Michigan employers and Grand Valley alumni will discuss topics such as “How to Really Use LinkedIn to Get a Job,” “Confessions of a Young Professional,” and “Understanding the Job Offer.”

“This is the first time we’ve planned this kind of conference for students,” said Susan Proctor, employer development manager for Career Services at Grand Valley. “Throughout the year, we offer a lot of programs about making the transition to a professional, and this conference will provide many of those programs in one place to make it easier for students.”

The conference is sponsored by Herman Miller, Inc., with support from Career Services, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Future Alumni Association and the Hauenstein Center’s Cook Leadership Academy.

Students can attend the entire conference or stop by for a few sessions. Register at www.gvsu.edu/stp.
