Campus areas selected for mapping and study
Consistent with Grand Valley State University’s ongoing effort to
protect the local ravine structures, a study is underway to map the
shape and below-surface characteristics of portions of the ravines.
Two areas have been selected for mapping and study — north of Zumberge
Hall and east of Padnos Hall. These areas were selected because of
their accessibility and their potential to yield valuable data for
future restoration work in the wooded ravines.
Continuation of university efforts to understand the geology and
characteristics of the ravines will preserve their use as outdoor
laboratories for the geology and biology programs, as well as other
academic programs.
