Students win first and second at business competition
A Grand Valley State University student took first place at the 4th
annual Regional Idea Pitch Competition held at Aquinas College
November 7.
Jason Sissing competed against students from areas colleges and
universities including Aquinas, Calvin, Cornerstone, Davenport, Hope
and GRCC to win the top prize of $1,500. Sissing, and the other
participants, had only 90 seconds to pitch their innovative idea for a
new project, service or business to a panel of veteran judges, without
the use of props or a powerpoint.
Sissing, a senior from Holland and a marketing major, won the
competition with his idea called “Pop-Top,” a redesign to plastic cup
lids to make them easier to handle.
Another Grand Valley student, Jacob Hall, also competed and won
second place and $1,000. Hall, a senior from Grandville and an
engineering major, pitched his idea called “Capable Solutions,” a
project to modify a vehicle for children with disabilities to make it
easier to drive and operate.
The competition was sponsored by West Michigan Colleges and
Universities Group and Ernst & Young, LLP.
