Grand Valley Amnesty International wins regional award
The Grand Valley Amnesty International Chapter was named the 2012
Midwest Student Group of the Year by Amnesty International. The group
was recognized November 10 in Chicago at the Amnesty International
Midwest Regional Conference.
Christina Uplinger, president of the Amnesty International Grand
Valley Chapter, said the group was nominated after a representative
from the international organization visited one of the group’s weekly
meetings in September. “He said he was impressed with the way we focus
our meetings on educating members and finding ways to give back to the
community through volunteering,” she said.
The Grand Valley chapter was established more than five years
ago and focuses on raising awareness about a variety of human rights
issues. They meet every Thursday in the Kirkhof Center, room 1142, at
9 p.m.
