Speakers at the 18th annual Fall Conference on Teaching and Learning will focus on blended learning and technology (or not) in classrooms.

Sponsored by the Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center, the conference is set for Wednesday, August 22, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Eberhard Center.

The morning keynote speaker is Karen Swan, professor of educational leadership at the University of Illinois-Springfield. Swan will discuss best practices for blending online and on-ground learning. Swan is a leading international researcher in the effectiveness of online teaching. At the University of Illinois, she also works as a researcher in the Center for Online Learning, Research and Service. In 2010, she was inducted into the inaugural class of Sloan Consortium fellows.

The conference’s afternoon keynote address will be a panel discussion led by three faculty members — John Kilbourne, Movement Science; Amy Schelling, Education; and Kurt Ellenberger, Honors — about engaging students with and without technology. Christine Rener, FTLC director, said the panel members have been recognized by students and colleagues for their varied approaches to engaging students.

Morning and afternoon breakout sessions will be led by invited faculty members.
