As a way of meeting the needs of students, the Seidman Financial
Planning Certificate program at Grand Valley State University is now
offered online.
The program consists of six non-credit courses that cover
principles of financial planning including insurance, investments,
retirement, personal income tax and estate planning. It is open to
those who have a bachelor’s degree in any field and knowledge of
financial analysis.
Gregg Dimkoff, program director and professor of finance in
Grand Valley’s Seidman College of Business, said courses have been
held on Saturdays for about 15 years, but that isn’t convenient for
many people any more.
“Most students would rather take an online class than meet at
night or on Saturdays,” said Dimkoff. “This is especially true for
those who are already employed and for those who are working as
accountants. There is a trend across the country for more online CFP
programs and Grand Valley is meeting that need.”
Dimkoff said more and more students are becoming comfortable
with online learning. Grand Valley’s program is compatible with other
CFP programs; students who successfully complete the program will be
qualified to sit for the CFP Certification Examination.
