Duo nominated for International Classical Music Award

A recording by two Grand Valley faculty members has been nominated for the 2013 International Classical Music Awards, one of the most prestigious distinctions available to classical musicians today.

Arthur Campbell, professor of clarinet, and Helen Marlais, associate professor of piano, were nominated for their recording, “Music for Clarinet and Piano,” which includes works from Schmann, Debussy, Saint-Saens, Poulenc and Arnold. It is the only clarinet recording nominated in the chamber music category.

The competition recognizes creativity, imagination in choice of repertoire and artistic excellence with awards in more than a dozen categories. The winners will be published on February 1 and an award ceremony and concert will take place in Milan on March 18.
 
Previously, Germany’s Fono Forum selected the duo for their Star of the Month award stating: “Campbell’s and Marlais’ playing is always exact, elegant, without excess. The beauty of this genuinely joint playing is so engaging that it seems to lack for nothing.”
