Grand Valley State University’s Seidman College of Business has
launched a new initiative directed to public and private companies,
including family-owned businesses.
The Center for Leadership and Innovation is designed for mid-to
upper-level and high-potential managers and executives. The center
will utilize resources both outside and within the university and will
collaborate and engage the local business community.
“The objective will be to provide programs and education
opportunities to help managers develop in-field decision making
capability and practical tools to handle the ever-increasing
challenges of today’s business environment,” said Paul Heroman,
startup manager for the program.
Heroman said often there is no support system in place for
middle managers in this new economy. “Some mid-level managers have
been put in place without the skills to be successful. These are our
future leaders and we are excited to provide them with the tools and
support needed to succeed,” he said.
Heroman has held leadership roles in both for-profit and
non-profit organizations, including his own consulting practice. He
has been involved with several start-up entities and participated in
the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s “Shifting Gears
Program.”
