Grand Valley mourns death of instructor

Longtime adjunct instructor for movement science Vonnie Boetsma died January 20; she was 65. Vonnie was diagnosed with ALS and continued to teach students the skills and knowledge of first aid and CPR until this past academic year.

Her work was so important to students and the university that the department named its Outstanding Adjunct Award in her honor. She was the first recipient of the award in June 2009. Vonnie began teaching at Grand Valley in 1992, teaching first aid and CPR. Prior to that, she served as a first aid instructor for the GVSU Police Academy.

Visitation is Sunday, January 23, at Yntema (Langeland, Steremberg) Funeral Home on State Street in Zeeland from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
