The College of Education will host a screening of “Bullied,” a film
produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center that follows the story of
a student from Wisconsin who filed a lawsuit against a school district
for not protecting him from those who tormented him because of his homosexuality.
“Bullied: A Student, a School and a Case That Made History” will
be shown:
Tuesday, January 18
6:30 p.m.
Loosemore
Auditorium, DeVos Center, Pew Grand Rapids Campus
The event is free and will be followed by a panel discussion.
Panelists include Kay Waters, a school counselor; Sue Verduin-Miller,
a school social worker; Michele Coyne, a consultant to schools on
bullying prevention; and Denise Brogan-Kator, interim executive
director of Equality Michigan. The moderator is Shelley Irwin, from WGVU.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a leading provider of
anti-bias education resources. This film is the seventh produced by
the center’s Teaching Tolerance program.
The GVSU College of Education Inclusion Committee has developed
this event to inform educators and the public while promoting its
