English Department Visiting Scholar: Anne Curzan

A lecture, "Apps, Bailouts, and Muffin Tops: How Language Changes," will be presented by Anne Curzan, author of How English Works, Thursday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m. at Cook-DeWitt Center, Allendale Campus.

Curzan is an associate professor in the Department of English at the University of Michigan and currently serves as director of the English Department Writing Program and co-director of the Joint Ph.D. Program in English and Education. She also has faculty appointments in the Department of Linguistics and the School of Education. Curzan received U-M’s Henry Russel Award for 2007, as well as an Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship.

Curzan's research interests include the history of English, language and gender, corpus linguistics, historical sociolinguistics, pedagogy, and lexicography. In addition to her teaching, research, and administrative posts, Curzan is co-editor of the Journal of English Linguistics. She and co-author Lisa Damour also run T.A. training workshops around the country.
