The daughter of South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu will talk
about truth and reconciliation during the upcoming Professionals of
Color Lecture Series.
Nontombi Naomi Tutu, consultant for two human rights
organizations, will present "Truth and Reconciliation:
Peacemaking" on Wednesday, March 3, at 4 p.m. in the Cook-DeWitt
Center. Her lecture is open to the public and free of charge. It is
sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs with support from the
Padnos International Center and Michigan Association of International Educators.
Tutu will discuss how it takes courage to tell the truth, yet
many people are afraid to speak out because of fear of rejection.
Using South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a starting
place and model, in this presentation Tutu talks about how we can heal
and be healed as individuals and a society.
She is involved in the Spiritual Alliance to Stop Intimate
Violence, and the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa. Tutu
had served as coordinator for race and gender programs at the
University of Cape Town, one of Grand Valley's partner institutions.
