U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) will give a presentation at
Grand Valley State University about her experiences as one of only 17
women senators.
"Just 17 Percent: Reflections from U.S. Sen. Debbie
Stabenow" is set for Thursday, September 9, beginning at 5 p.m.
The event, followed by a reception, will be in the Cook-DeVos Center
for Health Sciences, room 119. It is sponsored by Grand Valley’s
Women’s Center as part of its "Women and Politics" series;
the event is free and open to the public.
Because of the popularity of the event, an overflow room has
been established, CHS 113. Also, participants are reminded that
parking at CHS is limited and the shuttle bus from the DeVos Center is recommended.
Stabenow made history in 2000 when she was the first woman
elected from Michigan to the U.S. Senate. She was appointed last year
to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and also serves
as chair of the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee, among
other committee assignments.
Prior to her election to the U.S. Senate, Stabenow served one
term in Congress after serving as a Michigan legislator for 16
years.
