The Department of Public Safety has released the university policy
for closing during bad weather. The following criteria are used:
ability of the university's road crews to keep campus roads and
parking lots cleared; conditions of primary and secondary roads in the
area; weather reports and other conditions.
When an announcement is made that Grand Valley is closed, only
essential are to report to work. Designated personnel in the following
departments are considered essential: Public Safety Services,
Facilities Services, Food Service, Housing, Information Technology,
Library, WGVU, Fieldhouse Management, Pew Campus Operations, Pew
Campus Security.
Normally the Pew Grand Rapids Campus will close only when the
Allendale Campus is closed. A decision to close the Meijer Holland
Campus will be made considering local weather conditions in the
immediate Holland area. When Muskegon Community College is closed,
GVSU's Stevenson Center for Higher Education, MAREC, and the Lake
Michigan Center will be closed. When the main Northwestern Michigan
College campus in Traverse City is closed, GVSU's University Center
will also close.
Students, faculty and staff members should assume the university
is open unless they hear otherwise via radio or television
announcements, or have been notified via the university's Emergency
Notification System. To sign up for text messages regarding university
closings, visit www.gvsu.edu/emergencycontact.
For detailed updates on campus conditions and area roads, tune
to WGVU-FM 88.5 and WGVU-AM 1480. Closings will also be posted online
at www.gvsu.edu.
