Panel on diversity initiatives will present report

President Thomas J. Haas and three members of the Diversity Oversight Committee will provide information on recent diversity initiatives to the campus community on April 19.

The event will be held in the Cook-DeWitt Center, starting at 2:30 p.m. A viewing area will be available in the DeVos Center, University Club Room. The event will also be webcast via Grand Valley’s homepage, allowing more students, faculty and staff members access to the information.

Other committee members on the panel are Provost Gayle R. Davis, Vice President for Planning and Equity Pat Oldt and University Counsel Tom Butcher.

In November, President Haas appointed a Diversity Assessment Committee to research current campus diversity initiatives and recommend ways to comply with Proposal 2 and to increase diverse representation for a rich learning environment.

The committee was divided into six subcommittees: Teaching and Learning, chaired by Wendy Wenner; Enrollment Management, chaired by Lynn Blue; Employment, chaired by Jann Joseph; Purchasing/Contracts, chaired by Ester Burns; Support Services, chaired by Marlene Kowalski-Braun; and Donors & Scholarships, co-chaired by Diane Purgiel and John Heerspink.

Recommendations from these six subcommittees as well as recommendations from University Planning and the Intercultural Advisory Council will be presented.
