Internationally renowned carillonneurs will perform throughout the summer at two locations: the Cook Carillon on the Allendale Campus, and the Beckering Family Carillon on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus. The 15th Annual Cook Carillon International Concert Series begins Sunday, June 28, with an 8 p.m. concert featuring Margo Halsted, carillonneur from California. For the past 45 years Halsted has been active in the carillon world. She has performed more than 400 recitals in the U.S. and in other countries with a carillon tradition.
Halsted has taught about 100 students to play; 30 have passed the exam to become full members of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. She was consulted for 20 bell installations and renovations, and has been honored for carillon work by the GCNA, World Carillon Federation and the University of California, Berkeley.
Halsted taught for 16 years at the University of Michigan were she was awarded the title of Carillonneur and Professor Emeritus upon her retirement. She is now visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
