Two faculty members will serve in Provost's Office

Two faculty members will join the Provost Office staff to cover duties for Nancy Giardina, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs, as she takes a leave from Grand Valley to participate in the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows program.

Provost Gayle R. Davis said Maria Cimitile, associate professor of philosophy, and Sherril Soman, associate professor of chemistry, will work in the Provost’s Office on an interim, half-time basis beginning on June 6.

Cimitile will assume duties associated with the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and serve as the liaison with general education. She will also continue work with community service learning projects already underway. Soman will take over duties associated with academic advising, orientation, student success, retention, and time to graduation. She will also work with student concerns brought to the Provost’s Office.

Both women will continue their regular faculty roles, Davis said.
