A group of students from Grand Valley State University took third place
in the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC).
The team competed in the American Advertising Federation (AAF) District
6 competition, in Southfield, on April 17, finishing in third place out
ten teams, with fewer than five points between the top three teams.
“We finished right behind Northwood University and Michigan State and
ahead of heavily favored Ball State, the University of Illinois, and
Central Michigan,” said Roy J. Winegar, an assistant professor in Grand
Valley’s School of Communications. The NSAC team worked for two
semesters under his direction and coaching to develop and produce an
advertising campaign for a national client.
This year the team of 25 students produced a $10 million national
communications campaign for an association of distillers of beverage
alcohol, The Century Council. Their focus was to increase the awareness
among college students of the dangers in excessive consumption of
beverage alcohol products; particularly binge drinking.
