ALLENDALE, Mich. — Students will find greater flexibility and may
graduate sooner because of a new partnership being developed between
Grand Valley State University and Lake Michigan College.
Lake Michigan College has four campuses: two in Benton Harbor, one in
Niles and one in South Haven.
The collaboration will provide students with access to all curriculum at
both schools without a disruption in financial aid. The agreement is
similar to those Grand Valley has already established with Grand Rapids
Community College, Muskegon Community College and Northwestern Michigan College.
“Grand Valley values its partnerships with Michigan’s community colleges
and continues to provide opportunities and access to higher education
for individuals in West Michigan by collaborating and maximizing
resources with our community college partners,” said Thomas J. Haas,
president of Grand Valley.
Lynn Blue, vice provost and dean of Academic Services and Information
Technology at Grand Valley, said: “In this economy, a lot of people are
looking to improve their academic credentials to find a new job or keep
the one they have. This partnership allows students to add a major,
finish a degree, or learn additional skills. This can also help shorten
the amount of time it takes to graduate.”
