'Stealing Buddha's Dinner' author visits Grand Valley

Author Bich Minh Nguyen will visit the Pew Grand Rapids Campus as part of the Michigan Humanities Council’s 2009-10 Great Michigan Read tour. Nguyen will visit five Michigan cities throughout October. Her Grand Rapids visit, sponsored by Grand Valley, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, at 7 p.m. in Loosemore Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Nguyen’s book, Stealing Buddha’s Dinner, is a memoir chronicling her migration from Vietnam in 1975 and her coming of age in Grand Rapids in the 1980s. She struggles to construct her own cultural identity from a menagerie of uniquely American influences. Her book was selected for the tour by a group of librarians, teachers, students, professors, authors and others from around the state.
