President Thomas J. Haas and Marcia Haas were among the representatives
from the Presidents Council State Universities of Michigan to visit the
Japan Center for Michigan Universities, in Hikone, Japan, to celebrate
the 20th anniversary of the center.
Haas is chair of the PCSUM. During the May 18-21 trip, the Michigan
delegation visited with city officials from Shiga and representatives
from Shiga University and the University of Shiga Prefecture.
The trip continues Grand Valley’s extensive involvement with JCMU. About
seven Grand Valley students study at the Japan Center each year. In the
fall, William Crawley, associate professor of criminal justice, will
teach there for the entire semester.
