New work by Steven Sorman at GRAM

Now completing his second year as the Stuart B. and Barbara H. Padnos Endowed Chair in Art and Design at Grand Valley State University, Steven Sorman has created a large number of prints, watercolors and drawings that will be featured in a new exhibition.

“Steven Sorman: New Work,” will open on Friday, April 3, at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, 101 Monroe Center NW, Grand Rapids. The exhibition runs through April 19. An opening reception, on Friday, April 3, begins at 5 p.m., with a lecture by Sorman at 7 p.m.

Also included in the exhibition will be a series of photopolymer intaglios, created with a technique he learned while at Grand Valley that combines a 500-year-old etching technique with modern technology.

Sorman, from Ancram, New York, is known internationally for his printmaking and painting. He likes to think of this body of work as his “made in Michigan” show.
