A conference organized by the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies
will connect what ancient history can teach the Obama administration
about the modern world. "President Barack Obama and the Lessons of
Antiquity" will run Thursday and Friday, April 16-17, at the DeVos Center.
J. Rufus Fears returns to campus to give a keynote address at 7 p.m.
Thursday at the Gerald R. Ford Museum. He is a professor of Classics at
the University of Oklahoma; his talk is free and open to the public.
Events on Friday will begin at 9 a.m. in Loosemore Auditorium. They
include a keynote speech by Bruce Thornton, author of many publications
on Greek culture and civilization and their influence on Western
civilizations, and panel discussions. Carl Richard, professor of history
at the University of Louisana, will give the luncheon keynote address.
