An evening of contemporary dance made for film will be celebrated in
Grand Rapids with screenings from 10 international films. The program is
made possible through support from Grand Valley State University's
Department of Music and Dance, Dance Films Association touring program
sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the members of DFA,
and the Susan Baum Trust.
The Dance on Camera Festival will be on Thursday, April 16, 8 p.m., at
Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy SE, Grand Rapids. Tickets, available at
the door, are $10 general admission and $5 for students.
The films range in length from less than four minutes, to just over an
hour. Among them are the French film “La Vie Est Belle,” animated by
Tristan Duhamel, with a rock music score by Delenda, and a film made by
Joan Frosch and Alla Kovgan in the U.S., “Movement (R)evolution Africa.”
It features eight African choreographers who present diverse
choreography that challenges stale stereotypes of “traditional” Africa.
Other films are from Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, New
Zealand, Norway, Sweden and Turkey. Some films contain nudity and adult
content. Total screening time for all films is 120 minutes.
