"Small Steps Count" is a six-week program sponsored by the
Children's Enrichment Center as an effort to promote healthy lifestyles
and bring awareness to child obesity.
Campus families can register for the six-week program through September
8. The cost to register is $5 and each family will receive a pedometer
and T-shirts for each family member. Jessica Miranda-Bevier, program
assistant at the Children's Enrichment Center, said steps will count
toward the progress only when the entire family is walking. Grand Valley
departments can participate as a family and contribute their prize,
should they win, to the center.
Weekly totals will be tallied and the two families with the highest
number of steps will receive $50 gift cards to purchase shoes for their
child or children. An awareness walk to celebrate the end of the program
will be held on October 23, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at the Kirkhof
Center. For more information, contact the center at x15437.
