Joan Borst, associate professor of social work and director of the MSW program, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach in Hungary. Borst will be teaching at Pecs University which has 30,000 students and is one of the five oldest universities in Europe.
“I will be sharing information about social work and health care with my Hungarian colleagues and helping them to develop social work curriculum,” Borst said.
She will be in Hungary for five months, beginning in the fall of 2009, teaching classes on social work and hospitals and social work and AIDS.
Borst said she plans to bring along copies of her new book, Social Work and Health Care: Policy, Practice and Professionalism. “Textbooks about health care and social work are not available in Hungary so I’m hoping it will serve as a good teaching tool,” she said.
Borst has been teaching at Grand Valley for 10 years. She is one of about 1,100 U.S faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.
