More than 60 years ago on January 27, 1945, Auschwitz was liberated by
the advancing Russian Army. One of the youngest child survivors of the
death camp will visit West Michigan and Grand Valley on that anniversary
to talk about her struggles and endurance.
Tova Friedman was featured in the WGVU award-winning PBS documentary
"Surviving Auschwitz: Children of the Shoah." A 26-minute clip
of the documentary will be shown during Friedman's visit. Milt Nieusma,
author of the book, Surviving Auschwitz: Children of the Shoah, will
accompany Friedman for book purchasing and signing during the scheduled
showings of the documentary.
Friedman and Nieusma will answer audience questions on January 27 in the
Cook-DeWitt Center, following a video clip of "Surviving
Auschwitz." She is also scheduled to attend two other screenings of
the documentary on January 28, 1:30 p.m., in the Cook-DeWitt Center; and
January 29, 6 p.m., in Loosemore Auditorium in the DeVos Center.
