The Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at Grand
Valley State University recently released the publication,
"Cultural Competency for Nonprofit Mental Health Organizations."
The report, authored by George Grant, dean of the College of Community
and Public Service at Grand Valley, is based on findings from research
on the experience of 30 nonprofit mental health organizations in West Michigan.
“One of the challenges faced by nonprofit organizations today is how to
successfully address the issue of cultural competency,” said Grant.
“This study identifies the needs of nonprofits in their work on cultural
competency, provides definitions, identifies nonprofits’ perspectives on
keys to success and provides recommendations on ways to improve
organizational cultural competency.”
Kathy Agard, executive director of the Johnson Center, said Grant’s
work is important in increasing the effectiveness of nonprofits across
the country. “We must continue to learn more from the experiences of
nonprofits and educate others who may be struggling with their own
organization’s cultural competency,” she said.
The publication is available online at www.johnsoncenter.org
. Printed copies may be requested by e-mailing [email protected].
