The quaint town of Ionia, Mich., where one year ago a film crew shot
scenes in the local courthouse, is showing the film this weekend.
"To Live and Die in Dixie," a feature-length film produced by
the Grand Valley State University Summer Film Project in 2007, will play
at the restored Ionia Theatre, 203 W. Main. Four showings are scheduled
at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday and Thursday at 9
p.m. Fifty percent of box office receipts will be donated to the project.
Dixie was shot entirely in West Michigan, drawing professional actors
from Hollywood, Chicago, Detroit and Grand Rapids. Based on a true story
of a love triangle at a southern college that ended with two murders,
the film was produced by a crew of more than 60 Grand Valley students
working side-by-side with professionals.
