VAGTC offers program for importers

The Van Andel Global Trade Center at Grand Valley State University is holding a program called “Importing Into the United States” on April 19. The program will provide importers with an overview of key areas that need to be addressed through internal processes and procedures to meet standards set forth in the Customs Modernization Act and the Import Regulations.

The program will be led by Mikah Wisner, who is the customs compliance manager for Meijer Inc. Mikah is a licensed customs broker and has been with Meijer for more than two years, heading up the company’s domestic and foreign validation coordination with U.S. Customs. Wisner is responsible for all Meijer clearances at multiple ports of entry around the United States. He also serves as the ACE and C-TPAT portal administrator for the company. Wisner earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University.

Covered topics include a review of the Customs Modernization Act, import documents, country of origin, marking requirements, managing brokers and post-entry audits.

The program is Thursday, April 19 in Grand Valley’s Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, 301 Michigan Ave. NE in Grand Rapids. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The registration fee is $300, or $175 for VAGTC members. A $50 late fee applies for registrations after April 12.

The event is sponsored by Neville Peterson LLP (www.npwtradelaw.com), a law firm specializing in customs and international trade law.
