New international partnerships announced

The Padnos International Center announced new partnerships with universities in Australia and Germany.

An agreement was signed in November between Grand Valley and Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Rich Jelier, associate professor of public and nonprofit administration, said the partnership is a logical culmination of the successful summer study abroad program established in 1998. It has become one of the most popular study abroad programs, with enrollment of more than 175 Grand Valley students.
Macquarie is similar to Grand Valley. It was established in 1964 and now has an enrollment of more than 29,000. Jelier and Kristine Mullendore, professor of criminal justice, have led summer programs there since 2000.
A college-level agreement was signed between Seidman College of Business and Berufsakademie University of Mosbach in Bad Mergentheim, Germany. Carol Sanchez, associate professor of management, said the formal agreement makes it easier for Grand Valley students to take classes at the university 75 miles southwest of Frankfurt.

"The credits will easily transfer and it all can be arranged before they go," she said.

Two students from Berufsakademie enrolled in Grand Valley classes in January. Sanchez said the business programs of the two institutions are similar and that classes at Berufsakademie are taught in English.

GVSU has partnerships with 30 foreign institutions. For more information, call the Padnos International Center at x13898 or visit www.gvsu.edu/pic.
