The College of Community and Public Service Undergraduate Advising
Center is ready to serve more than 1,600 students in the college with
academic advising and faculty mentorships.
The new advising center, in room 216A of the DeVos Center, provides
assistance to current and prospective undergraduate students in the
School of Criminal Justice, School of Public and Nonprofit
Administration, School of Social Work, and Hospitality and Tourism
Management department.
“We are excited to serve our students in a timely, consistent and
accurate manner,” said Jennifer McCaul, director of the advising center.
“Students need to know they’re not alone. If they don’t know who to ask
about requirements, policies or resources, they should ask us.”
The center’s staff can help students with degree planning, degree
progress, personalized course selection, long-term goals, and even
provide support to students in academic jeopardy. McCaul said it’s also
important for students to have a faculty mentor and CCPS staff members
can facilitate those relationships.
The center was created after a comprehensive self study through the
university Academic Advising Council, approved by the Provost’s Office.
The study was evaluated by the National Academic Advising Association.
